Where to stay in Bogotá, Colombia: Best Hotels & Areas

Bogotá is a huge city – so where’s the best place to stay?

Part of the answer depends on your personal preferences: Do you enjoy the charm of the historic center, want to be near trendy nightlife and great restaurants, love waking up to views of the green Andes, or appreciate a touch of luxury?

In a city like Bogotá, safety is also an important factor when choosing accommodation, as safety levels can vary quite a bit across the city. As a solo female traveler, I prefer to stay in hotels close to restaurants and cafés that are well lit and populated in the evening. Please also have a look at my general Colombia safety tips for solo travelers (and others).

As a Bogotá resident (and former solo female traveler in the city), I’ll walk you through the best neighborhoods to stay in and share handpicked hotels that offer great value for money across different price ranges.

Best Areas To Stay In Bogota, Colombia

Here are nice neighbourhoods I can recommend for staying in Bogotá:

  • Chapinero: This large and pleasantly busy neighbourhood is home to a lot of shops, restaurants, hotels, co-working spaces, as well as cute little residential houses. Great areas to stay are, for example, Chapinero Alto and Quinta Camacho.
  • Teusaquillo: This neighbourhood has several extremely beautiful sub-districts with nice little houses and parks, like Santa Teresita, Armenia and La Soledad (where the famous Park Way with its restaurants and cafes is located).
  • La Macarena: La Macarena is quite close to the historic center and known as the bohemian part of Bogota with its art galleries and book shops. The streets are colorful and well-lit also later in the evening since there are a lot of little restaurants and bars around.
  • La Candelaria: La Candelaria is Bogota’s old town and the historic center of the city. It has a bohemian flair with interesting cafes, cosy restaurants and great theaters. Especially during the weekends, it’s busy with people until the late evening due to its large cultural and gastronomic offer.
  • Parque del Virrey & Parque de la 93 (Calle 80 to 93, Zona T, Zona Rosa): The area around Parque del Virrey and Parque de la 93 in the north of Bogotá is more upscale, featuring a lot of fine restaurants and bars. The famous Andino Shopping Mall is also close by.
  • Usaquén: Picturesque Usaquén is located even farther north and was once an independent town. There are plenty of nice restaurants and excellent cafés around the Parque Fundacional de Usaquén and in the charming nearby streets.

Neighbourhoods I would currently not recommend to solo female travelers are:

  • La Perseverancia and Las Cruces: On AirBnB you can sometimes find accommodation with great ratings in La Perseverancia and Las Cruces. While these neighbourhoods may be picturesque and central they are not considered safe at all by locals. (I hope one day this will change, since they have a lot of potential.)
  • Other neighbourhoods in the South of La Candelaria: Though you can find nice and safe neighborhoods also in the South of Bogotá, the problem here is that the South basically does not appear on the touristic map and it’s really difficult to find out which parts are safe and which are not. You would need some time to talk to locals first.

Tip: Since Bogotá’s neighborhoods are quite large, I recommend looking more closely at the specific area around your chosen hotel. A good rule of thumb is to check recent reviews from other solo travelers on platforms like Booking.com* and Expedia.com*, paying special attention to comments on the area. You can also take a virtual stroll through the surroundings of your hotel using Google Maps or Google Earth.

Tip: Zoom in on the map and click on the colored shapes to learn more about each area.(Note: The shapes do not mark the whole neighbourhood, just the recommended areas.)

Best Hotels In Bogota, Colombia

Bogotá offers great upscale and luxury hotels in all nice areas of the city. If you are traveling on a budget, rooms with a shared or attached bathroom are more affordable and easier to find than rooms with an integrated private bathroom in Bogotá’s top areas.

Amazing Upscale & Luxury Hotels

Many upscale and luxury hotels are located in the area between Parque El Virrey and Parque de la 93 in the North, and offer rooms starting around 95 USD. In La Candelaria you can find amazing boutique hotels. Here are some great options.

  • GHL Bioxury Hotel: Stylish rooms with big windows close to Zona T. (Booking.com* | Expedia.com*)
  • Hotel Cabrera Imperial By key 33: Comfortable, spacious and modern rooms in a quiet street not far from Zona Rosa. Amazing views from the rooftop! (Booking.com* | Expedia.com*)
  • Candelaria House Boutique: Bohemian-style, gorgeous rooms in the heart of La Candelaria. (Booking.com*)
  • Masaya Collection Camelia: Just check out the “Suite with Terrace” and rest in awe. A hidden gem in La Candelaria. (Booking.com*)

Nice Mid-range Accommodation

Here are some nice mid-range options with private bathrooms between 45 USD and 75 USD in recommendable neighbourhoods of Bogotá.
  • Floralia Casa Boutique: Beautiful boutique hotel in Chapinero Alto close to nightlife areas and restaurants. Guests love the breakfast!  (Booking.com* | Expedia.com*)
  • ibis Bogota Museo: Convenient option close to the National Museum and the galleries and restaurants of La Macarena. Clean, simple and bright rooms. (Booking.com*Expedia.com*)
  • Exe Bacata 95: Modern, stylish and bright rooms close to Parque de la 93. (Booking.com*Expedia.com*)
  • BloomHouse Parkway: Modern Aparthotel with spacious rooms and apartments right next to the Parkway in the heart of La Soledad. (Booking.com*)

Great Budget Hotels and Hostels

Cheap dorm beds are easy to find all over Bogotá; several hostels offer pods/capsules (beds with curtains). If you prefer a private room in a nice area for less than 30 USD, you have more choices, if you are open to options without a private bathroom.

In La Candelaria there are plenty of charming budget hotels and hostels, located in beautiful historic buildings. View the pics on Booking.com* and Expedia.com* to see yourself.

Here are my budget picks for different parts of the city.

  • Republicana Casa Hostal: Clean, nice rooms with private bathroom in the heart of La Candelaria. Great option if you want to stay in the historic center, can get a bit noisy though. (Booking.com*)
  • Casa Samor La Candelaria: Dorm capsules with comfy beds and nice and cheap private rooms (some with bathroom) in La Candelaria. Solo travelers love the location, it can get a bit loud though. While some of the private rooms have nice views, the dorms don’t have real windows. (Booking.com*)
  • Nomadia Hostel Boutique: Modern boutique hostel offering small dorms with capsules, as well as beautiful and affordable private rooms with shared bathroom very close to Zona G, the restaurant area in Chapinero Alto. (Booking.com*)
  • Urban Heights Bogota: Pretty, clean rooms with private bathroom in Chapinero Alto, close to Parque de los Hippies and the restaurant and bar area. (Booking.com* | Expedia.com*)
  • Casa 121, calle 121 no 7-18: Stylish, creative rooms with private bathroom next to the cafés and restaurants in Usaquen, in the North of Bogotá. (Booking.com*)
